Original recording done live in stereo at the club Birdland, May 22, 1998. The recording originally sounded like a bootleg. The sound was then enhanced to make the album enjoyable.

Drummer/drum collector Jorma Mikkeli wrote this review of the album, here in Finnish, with a translation into English after the Finnish version:

"Kun eka biisi lähtee käyntiin,on jo tosi hyvä fiilis, koska tilanne ja tila kuuluu tallenteelta. Soittimet soi aidosti ,ei mitään studiohanikoilla hoidettua liian sliipattua materiaalia , livetilanne ja soundit sellaisena kyytiin. Biisit ovat tunnettuja standardeja, mutta eihän siitä ole haittaa; toimivuuden takiahan ne soittolistojen kärjessä ovat. Vuosi on 1998, mukana ovat Nappi vanhempana starana ja Kepa,Teppo  ja Tommi ja silloin nuorempina ,mutta jo vahvasti asemansa ansainneena. Sessio on  ainutlaatuinen hetki suomalaista mestarirumpalihistoriaa, tasollisesti edellä mainitut vellokset erottaa "maailman tähdistä" vain maailman maine , soiton taidokkuushan  on huikea.
Äänite on hieno dokumentti ja kunnianosoitus suomalaiselle osaamisellle musiikin saralla; ei ainoastaan rumpaleiden osalta, vaan koskien myös muita bändien jäseniä.

The review in English:

When the first track starts, there´s already a good feeling, because the situation and the room are heard on the recording. The instruments sound real, not a too clean material handled with the aid of studio gadgets, the live situation and sounds recorded just like they were. The songs are well known standards, but that is no problem; they are among the most played songs because they work. The year is 1998, Nappi is there as the older star, and Kepa, Teppo and Tommi younger at the time, but as drummers who already have earned their position in a strong way. The session is a unique moment in the history of Finnish master drumming, the level compared to the "world stars" differs only in world fame, as the skillful playing is amazing.

The recording is a fine document and tribute to Finnish knowhow in music; not only on the part of the drummers, but also concerning the other members of the bands.

As I often say about agreeable recordings, "easy on the ears". Will be played many times in our cottage".

Arvio alkaa toteamuksella että rumpali Tapani "Nappi" Ikonen on Suomen toiseksi ahkerin levyttäjä (5797 uraa, kitaristi Heikki Laurilan 7272 uran jälkeen). "Nappi Ikosen tilastot lisääntyvät taas yhdellä, sillä hän on mukana tuoreella Drum Night at Birdland -albumilla. Kolme muuta iskijää ovat Teppo Mäkynen, Jari "Kepa" Kettunen ja Tommi Rautiainen".  Arvio jatkuu kertomalla turkulaisesta Birdlandista: "Täkäläinen Birdland oli 1990-luvulla kauppatorin kulmassa toiminut jokailtainen jazzklubi. Se sai pääkaupunkiseudunkin klubinpyörittäjät vihreiksi kateudesta, ja muusikot suitsuttivat aikaansa edellä ollutta pioneeritoimintaa". "Tallenne on arvokas ennen muuta historiallisessa katsannossa. Siihen on taltioitu pala turkulaista klubitoimintaa ja ajan jazz-soiton ja -innostuksen henkeä".

Another review, this one from the culture section in the daily newspaper Turun Sanomat  The reviewer gives some information on the drummers at hand, saying that that Nappi Ikonen has the second most studio recordings to his name (only a guitar player has recorded more albums). Nappi has officially played on 5797 tracks. The review ends with the statement that the album first of all is a historically valuable recording, and that it conveys the spirit of playing jazz and enthusiasm.
